Blackfish

Atlantic Triple tail

An often overlooked resource in our local sport fishing reservoir is the Black fish or Atlantic Triple tail. This is a migratory fish that inhabits near shore waters in our area during the summer months. The fish is an excellent food fish (some say the best) and a great fighter. They most often are caught around buoys and channel markers and under any floating debris with live shrimp or very large dead shrimp but most any bait will work when the are feeding. A short stout rod with 50# are larger braided line beneath a slip cork 2-6 feet deep is the most common tackle. The current Mississippi creel limit is 3 fish at least 18" in length.
